I am in the market for a roof rack system to install on the top of my TJ to carry some plastic containers for kitcken, food, recovery gear. Also thinking about installing an ARB awning and axe/Shovel on the sides of the rack. I have looked into the GOBI racks, but if I could avoid dropping that bombshell of money, I would be pretty happy. I have also looked at the Surco Safari Rack system, does anyone have this rack on their rig? If so, how do you like the set up?

I hate when companies do this, advertise a rack fitting a TJ but show the picture on a JK. Even the install instructions show the same thing, it being installed on a JK. Anyway, i'm not a huge fan of the rear attachment bracket running down the side of the hardtop like that. But it is way holes having to be drilled through your hardtop than my Yakima setup.

Have you considered that option yet? I feel its a way cleaner look and for somewhere in the same price range...

I am open for any suggestions, drilling through the top is a big deal. I will look into the yakima racks. Do you have any idea how much weight that rack could support on the roof? I would not wanna risk ruining my hardtop by crushing or cracking the plastic.
