Hey guys. I am looking for your guys opinion between the bf Goodrich km2 and the Good year wrangler Duratrac's. Right now I am running 32" KM2 on my 1999 Jeep wrangler Tj 4.0 and I am trying to figure out if i should buy another set of the Km2's, or try the Duratracs. I drive a lot on the highway, but enjoy offroading in my off time. Snow is very common where I live. Any advice or opinions are appreciated!

You're comparing two totally different tires.

You should be comparing the BFG KO2 and the Goodyear Duratrac. Both A/T tires, and both competition for one another.

If you drive on the highway a lot and don't do too much off-roading (or mud), an M/T tire like the KM2 is the wrong tire to be running. You want to run an A/T tire like the Duratrac.

However, I've owned both KO2s and Duratracs, and while I can say they both perform exceptionally in everything other than deep mud and jagged rocks, the KO2 is definitely quieter on the highway versus the Duratrac.

This is solid advice.
We love our KO2’s on the 4Runner. My BIL just put duratracs on his Duramax, they look like real nice tires. Buddy loves the GY’s.
And the new KM3’s look sick, but Chris is right. If you run mud and loose tread clogging stuff, MT’s would be the route.

But honestly, for a daily...AT’s work great and people don’t give them the credit they deserve. MT’s are cooler looking but you give up soooo much daily driver for the “look”.
I’m guilty of this myself. Ran MT’s on many trucks that didn’t need them. I’m vain. 😂

I don't know about the Duratracs, but I was really impressed with my KM2's in the snow. They also seem fairly quiet on the road, at least the noise I hear while driving isn't from the tires ;)

I’ve been really happy with my KO2s, which are a more comparable alternative to Duratracs (however I’m only 5k miles on mine).

However the KM* series is another beast, since it’s an MT instead of an AT (meaning that comparing a km2 and duratrac is apples/oranges) - what kind of driving do you do? What environment are you in?

I miss my duratrac's. I never had a worry in the ice and snow and they gripped really well offroad. Very quiet hwy manners too

Ancient history:
My CJ spent way too long on MT tires. They were terrible on wet roads because they were so wide and the CJ was so light.

My next 4x4 (a truck) I decided on the pre KO-anything BFG ATs and they were much better on the road and not too bad in some mud.

Today:
I have no experience with newer BFGs. I have the Duratracs on my TJ. They are great on both wet roads and the few times I've had some snow. They're also better than those 1990s BFGs were in mud.

Just went from KM2s to Duratracs last month. I went back and forth for weeks before I pulled the trigger. The aren’t making KM2s anymore so if you can find them then it might be a good deal but BFG is awfully proud of the KM3 price-wise right now. Discount Tire had an extra $112 off for five so that made the decision for me. The hook up decent in all but pure mud holes and I can actually talk to my passenger on the interstate with no doors or top now. We shall see how much louder they get as they wear but this fella right here is in the honeymoon phase with the Duratracs. Both sets were 33x12.5x15. The Duratracs ride much better too but I went from E to C so I don’t give all of the credit to the tire itself.

I run load range "E" Duratracs and have no complaints. Good traction on ice and snow. Never had an issue with hydroplaning.

Most will recommend sticking with load range "C" here.

I run the Duratracts. YJ: 33x12.5x15. Load C. Got 45k out of them so far and still 1/2 the life left. Run GREAT in snow and rain. (off road there ok... nothing great... But not bad. Deep mud is not their friend. If only a little mud they do just fine. Dirt snd some rocks they are good.). *I run bloggers for off-road usually.

On my Silverado ( I get a new one every 2-3 years). I ALWAYS get 75k out of them. Load C. Rotate and they will last. GREAT in snow and rain. I don't take the Truck off road. *I did have a set of WildPeak ATW3s and they were not as good in the rain and snow. Just felt loose. I quickly went back to the Duras.

I went with KO2s for the street on the TJ because Duras don't come in a 35" for a 15" rim. I'm happy so far. Hanlded rain the other day well. Have yet to see snow. I feel that are just as loud as the Duras. (both are ATs and run quiet to me. Quieter that the Wildpeaks and of course MUCH quieter than the Boggers. :)

On the second set of Duratracs for my truck because its a four season northwest highway, back road, mountain, goat track daily b driver go anywhere to work, hunt, fish, and camp vehicle. Wouldn't run anything else. The TJ wears KM2s because its an occasional street vehicle that spends most of its hours on Jeep trails.

I've had both KM2's and Duratracs on my TJ. Based upon your description of the type of driving you do (lots of highway, some offroading & snow), I'd recommend going with Duratracs. The Duratrac has great highway manners, does well offroad and is excellent in the snow. Another area I've found the Duratracs really shine is on ICE - these are the best tire I've found for snow & ice. I even put a set on my Suburban which is my primary winter vehicle. Good luck!

Both are great tires. I ran Duratracs for 7 years. Went to BFG K02's and love them too. Whatever tire that you choose, choose a "C" load tire. Night and day difference.
