Can't get my Jeep into 4WD

You will have to drop the skid to install the cable shifter. If you get stuck on something just STOP and ask. Or take a 5 minute break. Trying to force something can end up bad. There are folks here pretty much 24/7 to help you out of a jam. Good luck.đź‘Ť

Very detailed thanks you!! I’ve never don’t this skid plate drop! I research it more and then I’ll get to it
It's fairly easy. Make sure you use a piece of wood between your jack and the trans. If you don't it will punch a hole in your pan. Also remember you only have to remove the weight off the skid plate so watch as you jack and when you see wieght coming off that would be good. Skid plate bolts are 6 and they were easy on my rig. This is a good time to wire wheel and paint the frame where the skid plate bolts to the frame.

https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/savvy-transfer-case-shifter-cable-install.10323/

This thread covers a lot of good points. There is also a video in there that can help. The six 3/4' bolts you remove to drop the skid plate can pose a problem if they are rusty. They are threaded into a nutsert in the frame and can spin. A few days before you start, hit ALL the fasteners with Kroil or some good penetrate and let it soak. Ensure you order the correct one for your type of transfer 231 vs 241. I'm assuming you have the 231.

The spacer that is above and to the left of the cotter pin in the attached picture goes on the shifter side of the cable connection. Can't remember specifically but it was easy to figure out. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Like someone said earlier, if you're not sure of something, stop take a picture and post your question, the guy's on this site are eager to help.

Looks like it's time to locate a replacement transfer case, that one is done. Your case should be the NP 231 and they are usually readily available.

I ended up getting a replacement they should be shipping it out sometime this week! Never installed this before....looks rough

It looks to be a clean rust free area and that helps a lot, normally you can find a nice U-tube guide on the swap.

Install isn't that bad.
You got lucky, my kid's exploded all over the road, literally.
I'm betting it was that stupid little green bushing on the TC shift lever arm. I'm pretty sure his got stuck between 2H and 4H, but looked okay on the shifter. The bushing came in the next day
That experience did save my mail carrier's Jeep. She was having the same problem as you. Stopped at the house for me to have a look. It was that damn bushing. 7 dollars later she was back in business.

Here's a decent video:

If you don't have an SYE on your existing transfer case, the removal of the rear driveshaft will be a little different than the video shows.

Pretty straight forward removal and install.

Wow man that sucks for your boy but luckily it made an experience so you could pay it forward! Well I’m glad it didn’t just take a shit on me since i was driving it around town to get the feel of it before I started really using the Jeep! My TC came in the mail today so I’m preparing for an eventful weekend!!

Make SURE you support your tranny w/ a jack. The skid plate is the support for the T case and tranny.

I'm pretty sure Stu's offroad has a detailed uninstall and re-install.
