I have problem. Oil is stained with metal shavings. Mounted ARB before 2000 km. Changed gear to 4.88 with no-branded parts before 500km and changed oil then. The repair was done in the ARB service. It is not homemade.

a new gear set will pull off some of the mill scale during the break in period. and may cause some minor wear as the new gear set meshes under load. this is why we change the oil at 500mi on a new set.

There does appear to be quite a bit of metallic particulate in the oil and the teeth on the pinion gear have a noticeable amount of wear. The initial setting of the pinion depth may be out of spec to cause this.

Did you install a used ARB or new one? And can you take pictures a little further back so we can see the whole thing at once.

The scratches? I assumed they were obtained during the installation of the crown. I think they kept it there to tighten the gear bolts. It is installed twice.

Post number 9 pictures show what appears to be the pinion gear walking on the locker case. Either the gears were set up wrong or the pinion nut came loose allowing the pinion to make contact with the case. Are there any noises when driving? I'm leaning towards improper set up (too deep) which caused excessive contact which resulted in all the metal flakes.

All the marks on the case that are slanted like / / / / indicate the pinion gear making contact with the case.

No noise or other problem. Maybe I should open it again and check for those scratches. There is a small axial and a small radial clearance in the axis of the pinion. Back and forth it is smaller than 1.0 mm, left and right 1-2 mm, externally, on the cardan shaft grip.

Just an uneducated question but why am I seeing the inner bearing instead of an oil slinger?

I see a few dings and a lot of reflection but no hash marks on the locker.

ok now that i'm not on a small ass phone i can see some scars.

is this what y'all are referring to?
the whole thing looks like it rolled around in someone toolbox.
why would the presumed pinion scars not carry the whole circumference?
