Collapsing body mounts—best fix?

Here's the evolution - I left the side a little tall just to make sure I'll hit the bracket before the bolt and body mount. Am I thinking backwards here?

The angle definitely makes it look like different lengths, and also I cut the bracket off a little cleaner on one side than the other so they aren't equal on the old bracket.

I'm going to take off a bit more of the underside to ensure I can have it welded on the inside top. I was kind of worried about just welding the bottom and sides so I think that will allay some concerns.

don't do 2x the work and remake the taper, use it.
scoot up to the red line and chop off whats left over.

This would've been smarter in hindsight. I trust myself a lot more cutting the angles that don't matter as much, than I do cutting a line all the way through the tube and keeping it straight. I keep forgetting my new chop saw that does that uppy-downy stuff pretty well.

looks a little short ? you can leave it any way you like, but those cuts should be rounded out some. a raw cut is a tear point if there was a snag to the gusset. radiusing it out some will remove that weak point and force it to bend and not tear.

It's not done yet, that was just the latest whack of activity that I've hit it with. I'm working on it every little chance I get, 10-15 minutes every couple of hours while working from the home office. I'm puking up more photos than are needed hahaha, I'd rather be out there working on it.

I got it so everything aligns on the Jeep - I got a little crooked with the hole saw on the back half, but not enough to redo it. Tomorrow I'm going in to town to ask the local welder to come burn it in. I don't trust my welding skills or my 110v stick welder for this

Thanks for your advice everyone!

The welder came over and welded on the body mount. Everything lined up well enough for the electrode to take care of the rest. I also had a new tailpipe made today with no muffler and using aluminized tubing. I've ripped off two mufflers in the past and thought I'd try just a straight pipe after the cats. Less hanging down and less to deal with for replacement. I like how it sounds with the cats and no muffler, I'm just hoping I don't get tired of the noise like I did with the last fart can I put on.

New $50 aluminized exhaust, mandrel bent and all of that! I may add a turndown at the end.
