Grille Inserts Project

I wanted grille inserts to add a little protection for the radiator since I will be flat towing the TJ.

I bought these:

They are good quality but I didn't like the black "blob" look.
So, I got a rattle can of Dupli-Color Forest Green Pearl, taped off the interior of each insert and painted.
Then hit them with 2 coats of clear coat.
So I went from this:

Wonder if you could plug those in under a chrome overlay? I like the look of the inserts, but wont sacrifice the chrome!
 
Nice. I'm planning on these as well, always worried about a rock in the radiator. I wonder if I can match my flame red - I'd prefer not looking at the bezels either.
 
Just put the Chrome inserts into my all Black TJ, they for sure make the front stand out big time but not sure I will keep them chrome as I am not sold on the blingy look yet. I wouldn't bother to paint them as they are well cheap enough to just buy another set in Black.
I bought them a few weeks ago but did not put them in because a few YouTube vids I watched (after I bought them) said they cause it to run hotter due to restricted air flow.
Now just need a couple of Mall Crawler badges to go where the Trail Rated badges go Lol
 
Fishtaco, I have not seen any change in operating temp since I installed the inserts.

Zorba, try DupliColor for a match on your red.

I ran mine all summer, not that it gets unbearably hot here but there was pretty much no noticeable difference in temp.
