LOD signature series rear bumper / tire carrier info and pics

I also have this exact bumper. I believe the piece everyone thinks is mounted upside down.. isn't. I believe you are suppose to drill those holes out and bolt through your rear crossmember (i didn't). I have mixed feelings about this brand. That being said, it's taken some serious hits and is unscathed. And it's heavy as sin!

Did yours come with an antenna mounting bracket? And would other aftermarket lights fit in the light cutouts in the bumper?

It did not come with a bracket, I ended up making my own. As for the lights, without modification, the short answer is no. I wish I had ordered it without the rear lights. Recently I've been thinking that if I grind some little corners in the circle cut outs, that a small flush mount "dually" light should fit in there.

That's interesting... everywhere it's listed says it comes with a CB antenna mount. I'll do some more poking around, but I'll probably end up ordering it either way. Thanks for the answer!

Its a solid bumper. I had a few issues but my main annoyance was dealing with their customer service. They kinda gave me the run around on a few things. I was young and got annoyed and dropped it, which wouldn't happen now. my frame tie-ins weren't square, probably got pulled in from the heat of the weld. also, the bracket that goes over the hinge post also has a hole in it where the locking pin drops into. that hole got ripped out after a couple months from the weight of the swing carrier resting on it. they told me it was my fault and not a design flaw.

despite all that, I'm still really happy with it and plan on doing some "improvements" of my own and it should continue to be great for years to come.

I'm looking at getting this bumper, and it seems there's limited knowledge to be had about it online, so I have a few questions I hope you can answer.
1. Are the round light mounts compatible with any other lights than the ones buy directly from LoD? I may want to put my own lights in there, but they make it seem as if only theirs will work.
2. It's listed as coming with a CB antenna mounting bracket, but I can't find any pics or further info on it. Is it the type that mounts behind the tail light, or is the mount on the bumper itself?

I hate to revive an old thread, but there is hardly any info on this bumper online and I'd rather not make a whole new thread.

Like @Vasq said, it is heavy. I did drill a couple holes but they were on the outer mounting plates. It seems like someone told me, or I read somewhere, that those holes were for safety chains too go up through the square holes on the bottom of the bumper and hook into the small round holes.

I think that you could probably mount other lights besides the ones they sell, depending on the size of it. This little tab is what the lights mount to. It's basically like a tab on a brush bar or bull bar. I'd say depending on the size of the light housing, bracket and mounting bolt, it could be done. The opening for the lights are 3-1/2 inches.

Mine did come with a CB antenna mount. It's just an L-shaped bracket with a hole on each side. One side is longer than the other. You can bolt it on anywhere there is a bolt hole on the tire carrier.

This helps a lot, thank you very much!

Well, I finally got around to installing mine today, or at least trying.
Rear_Tow_Hook.JPG

My TJ has one of these tow hooks hanging off the frame. The first problem I had is that the little piece of metal hanging out of that access hole was bent and sheared off (what part is that, by the way?), leaving the nut spinning in place inside the frame 🤬. Having the other bolt out, I figured I'd just swing the hook out of the way and slide it back over the bumper once I had it on. ( I later figured out that won't work, so I'll have to cut the bolt and replace it.)

So then I moved on to getting the 4 bolts that thread into the plate with welded nuts. I don't know if my hands are just too small, but reaching between the gas tank skid and crossmember, I simply could not get the nut plates lined up, even with the skid dropped a couple inches like the instructions say. So how did you get those plates lined up? I'm thinking I ought to just drop the whole gas tank to have enough space to work with. What do you think, @MountaineerTom ?

That little piece of metal is the end of the nut that won't come out. It's called a flag nut, used in areas where it's hard to get a wrench in. The down side is, well when it breaks, it's had to get a wrench in there. LOL You may be able to get an angled pair of needle nose vice grips in there to clamp down on it. Cutting the bolt head off will work too.

My Jeep is an Unlimited so I had a little more room between there. I wonder if you could use one of those telescoping magnets to hold the nutplates in place until you get the bolts started?

🤦‍♂️ Ohh that makes much more sense, didn't realize the gas tank wasn't right up against the cross member on the LJ. Thanks for the tip, I'll try the magnet when I have a chance to go at it again.

And I forgot to ask about the CB mount. Were you able to get a decent ground on the bumper, or did you use a ground strap?

I didn't use the LOD mount. I have mine mounted on a Terraflex drivers side tail light mount. As far as the L-shaped bracet in the pic above, I'll probably mount somewhere on the tire carrier to use as a flag mount for another firestik I have with a foreverwave sleeve and flag.

If you mount your antenna on the carrier or bumper you could just check your SWR and if it's not low enough, run a ground strap to a good ground.

I've also been looking into your posts about the XJ fog light switch. I checked ebay, but saw prices like $40 and $90 for one switch. If I try to find it in a salvage yard, are 97-01 the years I'm looking for?

I'm not sure on the years. I just came across it while looking for switches. I found an XJ service manual and just figured out which wire did what on the XJ and then converted that to the wire colors my Wrangler has.

Bout to purchase this bumper, and I'm curious if someone can take a measurement for me.

I'm looking for distance from the tailgate to the back of the swing out. Hoping I can get a quick fist mounted on the swing out to hold my axe. Maybe even a shovel if I'm lucky.

Also - almost pulled the trigger on the round halogen cutouts before realizing everyone hates them. I really like having bright reverse lights, so now I'm leaning towards the flush mount Rigids.

I can get one for you later tonight when I get home from work.

I actually have a quick fist I'm not using. I’ll see if it fits too.

If you added the top rack maybe, but I doubt it without one. Signature series at glass and tailgatePXL_20210318_064458683.jpgPXL_20210318_064416949.jpg

I’m glad @TheShakes90 got this. I had to stay over a little later at work last night and forgot about it by the time I got home.

@MountaineerTom @TheShakes90 if you had to do it again, would you opt for the Rigid Dually cutouts or no light cutout?
I prefer the looks of the round halogens, but the output is dismal and you have to drop the bumper to replace the bulb...

Another question - any idea if the Scepter MilSpec fuel/water jugs fit the jerry can holders? Assume they do since dimensions are mostly similar.

Edit: Or take a measurement of the base dimensions.
