That was my thought because they are only thin aluminium but the Rubicon came with them so must serve more of a purpose?I thing they are to cover up rust and dents.

Mostly decorative. They can be used to slide if you are gentle setting the Jeep onto them. But any decent hit and they will bend and start to deform the tub.
