Stolen! (no meaningful questions or insights in this thread unfortunately, just a story)

Damn, that’s bad news. This would have been a cool thing to have.
I'd give it some time. Lojack ended it's North American sales back in March and was then aquired by Spireon. It looks like they are currently only offering the system with new cars through dealers and for fleet vehicles. I imagine as the re-grow the brand it will expand.

I’m not in a hurry, but I would definitely like some sort of GPS solution like this that would allow me to track the vehicle and maybe even remotely disable it if it were stolen.

Electric fence attached to the Jeep helps as a deterrent, a Mallory HV ignition coil could be wired to activate with a hidden switch, and wired to the body too…

superglue a couple razor blades to the back of stereo can give a DNA trail if someone tries to run off with that..

The first half of that story was really good! The last half breaks my heart.
Amen. Good job as a dad, she will always remember the time you spent. There is something that just gets you inside when these things happen. It shakes your faith in people and makes you feel violated, for lack of a better word. Keep your chin up, she is ok and there are more TJ’s.

I like the way you think ! (y)

I have nothing but bitter hate for thieves. This is any Jeep lovers nightmare. Ive literally dreamt of it happening to me. This is a perfect example of why I believe mandatory 10 year sentences should be handed out to auto thieves, and why Americans should be pushing for stricter laws to be drawn up.

If we handled them like the following image, I think we wouldn't be having this discussion:

i disagree with the 10yr sentence, could you imagine how many prisons we would need ? i do agree 100% like you with the 2 strikes you done method (amputation of hand). they wont do it but twice !

Had razors soldered to the back side of a high end stereo and power amp in an old 1974 Dodge Dart some 40+ years back. Came back to it one night with blood on the floorboard and the stereo still in it, but EVERY window and exterior lamp lens busted out. Never considered that to be an outcome.

had a truck broke into awhile back while at the lake fishing. told the officer if this is a problem i would fix it, he asked how. and i told him a few $100 bills, superglued to a flannel shirt and glued to a bear trap. he told me they would due that to my truck ! i said you wanna bet because the next thing that would happen is there would be a loud crack from my sniper riffle across the lake.

I am SO glad that I added the SKIM system to my Jeep shortly after I bought it! I also moved away from SoCal to Chapel Hill NC a few months ago, removing that "across the border and GONE" factor from the equation. I mainly worry about flatbed tow truck theft now - back in 1978 when I moved from NJ to Charlotte NC, I had a '71 Corvette. I got up early one Saturday AM (or more likely stayed UP drinking all Friday night!) and was taking the trash out to the dumpster at The Lake apartments - an apartment complex that was KNOWN for car thefts. I couldn't believe my eyes - there was a tow truck operator hooking MY Corvette up to his flatbed. I asked him WTF he thought he was doing - he looked at my scrawny ass and said: "I got a call this AM to pick this car up; the owner said his keys were lost." He then turned his back to me and continued doing what he was doing. I went back inside, grabbed my .45 ACP, stuffed it into my waistband, went back outside and tapped him on the shoulder. Without "brandishing" the weapon, I "caught his eye", then looked down at my waistband and said: "Perhaps you ought to rethink your course of action there, Gulliver!" - which was EGGZACTLY what he did. "I applaud your good judgement!" was my reply; after which I called the cops and they came out to take a report. Of interest: the tow truck had those removable magnetic signs on it - when I told the cops what the signs said, they advised me that there was NO such towing company, and the phone number was Fugazy - there ya' GO!

Needless to say, I found a garage for rent for $50/month THAT very day, from a widow lady who lived ~2 miles away...

Sad to hear. My almost 18 year old daughter’s first vehicle is an 05 Patriot Blue X. Manual, which she drives like a pro. I actually plan to send her off to college in something else and keep the Jeep for myself, theft worries being one of the factors.

We put a GPS tracking device that plugs into the OBD2 port under the dash on my daughter's car, Works fairly well and we can track the car from anywhere with cell/internet service. We went with the cheaper version that updates every 3 minutes, I believe you can buy up to real time. Gives us speed and dangerous G-force turn alerts and a bunch of other things. It is nice to have when she is in college 10 hours away in a sometimes not so nice part of North Carolina.

Drug cartels love them to go high into the mountains.
if that's really the case it's a head scratcher, you'd think with all their money they could afford some newer shit than a fleet of old limited cargo space TJs

TJs have just about reverted to novelty status at this point, something so cool to have, & theft in general is one of the reasons I really don't leave mine anywhere out of sight; when it's out of the garage my ass is either in the driver's seat or it's parked somewhere very nearby most typically the parking lot of an outdoor eatery/brewery/winery within eye-shot.

Not really. They like older equipment that can be easier to repair. Plus some vehicles just have status due to collectability. I lived in MEX at one time and had an old Chevy Blazer that was stolen. It was seen out by Sonora a few days later. Could not get the locals to do anything about it either. Sure wasn't worth getting killed over.

well them Democrats in CALI cant have anything more powerful than a sling shot with all their bullshit ! they get exactly what they deserve ! IMHO. if they'd make it against the law to not carry a gun that shit would stop. but no their citizens ruined that state and are now dispersing with the mexicans throughout the rest of the country to help out the other states. and when only crooks have guns everything will be good !

Somebody recently asked about traveling overseas, everybody responded that they'd have a great time, nothing to worry about. I have friends overseas that ask about visiting America and I tell them you gotta be careful where you go, what you look like and what you sound like.
