Dyno Testing Bolt-ons On The 4.0

Well I'm a Comp and Cometic dealer so I was looking at doing a Comp 68-501-5 and a 0.027" thick Cometic for the gasket. That would bump it from around 8.8:1 to 9.2:1 or so and move the quench from 0.072" to 0.048". I'm also planning to cut the head 0.010"-0.015" which should give me another 3...

Dyno Testing Bolt-ons On The 4.0

Mummbleeee248... Timing chain will be installed with the cam. Good idea on the leakdown, I will also do a compression before dyno and after the head/cam swap.

Dyno Testing Bolt-ons On The 4.0

Yes and no. Engine dyno would probably show a more clear picture of the differences in modifications. The engine dyno doesn't do a good job when it comes to real world conditions like engine bay heat, losses from drive components and accessories.

Dyno Testing Bolt-ons On The 4.0

Chassis dyno. It's a Dynojet 248 big roller. It's extremely accurate as it uses mass and acceleration vs the new stuff that has user inputs and adjustable constants. When I dyno the turbo kit installs we do locally it will back up runs within 1-2 hp from run to run. The TJ has stock tires...

Dyno Testing Bolt-ons On The 4.0

I recently purchased a 1997 TJ (4.0 32RH) for some projects I am working on. I am planning to do some tuning sessions on it to get some base files for my tuning business. As part of that process I am going to be on the dyno in a number of different configurations with different mods. As a...

Cooling fan upgrade comparison: Explorer 11-blade fan and HD clutch versus SPAL 19" 850-watt electric brushless fan

The horsepower loss from the factory fan is actually something I want to test on my TJ. I was planning on doing some dyno pulls with the factory fan and clutch, then trying to lock up the clutch, and then with no fan connected similar to running an electric. Has anyone tried to use the JK fan...

    Power advice

I'm about to start testing this very question. I bought a completely stock 1997 TJ with the 4.0 with the goal of testing some different mods from bolt-ons to tunes and all the way to cam and shaving the head. I'll probably start a thread soon as I gear up to start.

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

I know it's not the LJ, but I made one for that too. The TJ didn't have one so I made a Jeep one.

    Tuning for Boost

Lots to unpack here. It really depends on what you are trying to do along with what PCM and operating system you are using. NA is reasonably easy on the TJ as there is not much that can or needs to be changed. Fuel and ignition timing being the big ones. With boost it's a bit more...

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

From what I remember they use a big block chrysler tie bar lifter and slot out the tie bar to set the spacing wider. I think 505 tried to do something with roller at one time. Not sure where it got left off. Maybe a project for the little red Jeep.

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

They were drop in on my Russ ported Edelbrock with the LS valves. Not sure exactly what you were running. I rev to 5k and there is no indication of float there. I can't imagine 500 RPM more would result in float, but there are quite a few factors at play. I would think even 1k more RPM...

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

Sorry I missed it somehow. I am undecided on the springs. They work fine no issues, but I am still getting the same amounts of bearing material in the oil. Last oil change I cut open the filter and found a few nice size chunks. I almost wonder if my cam is bent. I remember the machine shop...

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

It would, but what fun would that be. It's a 32rh.

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

I want to see if it's possible to make 200 wheel hp or about 250 crank with some basic mods. Basically I think I can disprove or maybe verify whether or not basic mods make a difference on the 4.0. I don't plan on going any further than possibly a cam. Most likely a header, cat back, windstar...

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

The turbo LJ is going to go on hold for a quick minute while I give this new rig some love. I want to do some videos of before and after on some basic mods. There's probably going to be another stock airbox vs video as well.

    Show me your beadlock wheels

I traded out the 15" wheels with the 35s for some 17s with 37s.

97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ ECM / PCM Tuning Options

They were at one time being sued by HP Tuners. I used them a couple of times, but got frustrated when the software would expire and I had to beg to be turned back on. Another prime reason I don't use SCT either.

    Jezza's Turbo LJ

I'm working on a little side project. My multi-function switch failed again leaving the fog lights on. I had previously repaired the lever inside with some JB epoxy, but it wore another groove in it. I'm testing this replacement part to see if it will hold up long term.

I spent a week out in East Tennessee at the Windrock OHV area putting the LJ through its paces. Here are some of the highlights.

97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ ECM / PCM Tuning Options

Go to the dealer and have them flash the PCM back to stock. That's the cheapest and easiest option.
