    in the early stages of failure, you can get away with unplugging and resetting the pcm. It will get to the point where that won’t work anymore and it sounds like you’re there.

    The bulb can stay on even if no skim is present. The only way to kill that bulb is by unsoldering it. I do not believe your pcm is bad. You can send the pcm into us and we can test it for you if you would like.

    Did the Jeep crank and run for a few seconds twice before the crank no start? It sounds like the skim could be active. Does the vin in the skim module match the vin in the ecm?

    Here is the inside a JTECH (97-04) ECM. The grey adhesive has to be gently pried open. A millimeter too far and the ECM turns into Elvis Patterson.

    Carefully check the wiring going to the sensor as well as the black connector (transmission) coming from the pcm. Please let me know what you find out.
