The InReach is pretty standard in the outdoor industry for guides now. I'd stay from Spot beacons. From what I've read they use the same satellites as Apple does for the iPhones and Apple takes priority over Spot so a lot of people have been having issues even just sending messages.

More of a truck than a TJ is ;)... Long term I'd love to get a real truck like an F-350 that I could put a camper on on and trailer the TJ with. But for now I just want a grocery getter truck to get me through college.
