KO2 Sidewall Cracking

Funny thing, there is a Costco sticker saying the were installed at 114842 but my odometer is at 112467.
The mileage on the sticker is when you need to rotate and balance them.

just came across this post, after noticing my rear right tire has attached cracks.. while none of the others have. I've noticed them while checking thread depth and have rear 7.3/32 and front 8.8/32 - hope I converted that correctly, since we use mm here which would be rear 5.8mm and front 7mm. The age code is 3020 so about 4.5 years old.

The climate here in Thailand is pretty harsh - hot, humid and lots of UV.

Should I replace both rear only or go for a new set? In the past I've always replaced all 4.

How are the ko3? they seem to be a bit cheaper here than the ko2?

You're cutting the corner too sharply and rubbing the curb, when leaving the drive-thru at McDonalds. ;)
p.s. I wouldn't replace a tire with that tiny crack. I replace mine in sets of 2, unless the others are badly worn.

no mc donalds where I live - luckily. I've probably watched too much Gold Rush on Discovery, where tire walls blow out nearly killing people.. so I thought if that tire might explode while driving, it could kill somebody.. especially me ;-) thread depth also fine then I guess? I'm not going offroad, but those concrete roads here are like sandpaper.. eating rubber like crazy

I'm thinking I'm gonna get Mickey Thompsons next. They seem like they're worth the money. But we definitely don't average anywhere near 85% humidity in the summer.

I worship my M/Ts. Have had several sets. Phenomenal tread life. Superior rubber compound technology. Worth every penny.

I had very old tires on one vehicle that showed sidewall cracking. They were fine while driving around town at low speeds, but after just a few miles on the highway at 60 MPH the tread separated - no blowout or any loss of air, just a length of tread came off.

In Arizona I don't plan for any tire to make the recommended miles as anything will not make it. I never look at wear life as a purchase choice. The tire will dry out before the miles come around. I had KO2's when I moved out to AZ many moons ago and they were already old and quickly became cracked. Now I purchase tires every 3-4 years and that is only if the tire somehow lives long enough from trails to make it 3-4 years.

Yeah I've been in the Four Corners area for about 6 months now and definitely believe that. Picked up a new set of Falken Wildpeaks just before moving down here and am very interested to see how long they last.

I recently replaced a set of MTRs that were 9 years old because the tread wore irregularly due to worn front control arm bushings. That number of years is about normal for me - well, the Jeep that is. The “other car” routinely wears down a set of hi perf summer tires in 15,000 miles or so. But I drive that one a bit more aggressively than the Jeep.

Speed rated performance tires wear , like an art gum eraser.

Nowadays I drive about 1000 miles a Year.. benefit of living on a small island.. avg speed is also 25 mph probably 40 tops.. bought the TJ with 24.000 about 7 years ago and I made it to about 40.000 today.. so yeah in my case is probably mostly heat and UV radiation hitting the side walls instead of actual wear
