    TJ over my JKU

Had an 08 JK . It had a 6 speed. A lot of hills where I am. I appreciated the gas mileage but didn't care for the lack of power and torque. Sold it and bought a 2001 TJ with the 4.0 and 5 spd. I've had fun adding wheels, tires, bumpers, etc. All around I've just had more fun with the TJ and it...

    Hot Lug Nuts

A sticking brake shoe (or pad) can be intermittent. If it's one wheel. that's the likely issue. If it's 2 or more it is possibly a brake system line/cylinder issue.

    The legendary 4.0

I agree. I had a JK and while it was a smoother running motor and the gas mileage was tons better, the lack of torque when paired with the 6 speed manual was really terrible when climbing hills at highway speed.

    Saw my first Gladiator today

I'm not a huge fan of the 4 door jeeps and the base model of the Gladiator looks even worse. I saw 2 red Gladiator Rubicons at a gas station in Flagstaff AZ the day before Overland Expo West started last month... they were obviously heading there for Jeep's vendor display. Personalty I'd spend...

    Seized Door Help

Mine were really stuck on too. I saw a video online where a guy removed the nuts from the bottom of the pins, then screwed them back on a few turns (so threads weren't damaged) and used a sledge to tap on the bottom of the pin. The door should be open a bit and you have to be careful not to hit...

What floor jack do you have and why?

A few years back Costco had Arcan 3-ton dual cylinder pro grade floor jacks for $99. Sales person said the local tire shops were coming in and buying 5-6 at a time. Heavy but bullet proof. Best floor jack I've had for the money.

Removed the top for the first time

Thanks. The seats have Bartact tactical covers. Without a doubt the best seat covers i have ever owned. Yes, the weather is great here for topless, but summer days in some parts of Arizona in the summer when the temps range in the 110-115 degree range are brutal. Top on and the AC blowing cold...

Removed the top for the first time

Was looking at the Alien shade tops and think the orage would have looked good on mine, but went with the Bestop full length bikini and the drill mount rail. Heard good comments about both and the ease of removing/installing the top with the rail. Think I need to order a trail cover also though...

Removed the top for the first time

Removed the top and doors yesterday. Previous owner said they were never removed. I'm sure this is the first time they have been removed since it was built. Door pins were really stuck and hard top took a lot of work to break the seal. Was worth it. Perfect weather in Arizona yesterday. This was...

Anyone have the Weather Tech floor mats in their TJ?

I had the Weather Tech's in my JK and they were ok but seems to catch your shoe occasionally on the side where they go up the pan when getting in and out. With the TJ I went with the Husky liners. They fit very well and have had no issues or movement. Best of all they were a bit less pricey than...

What is the best trim restorer out there?

I've used the 303, McGuires, back to black and others. Some are ok, but none last very long in my opinion. Some have had good luck using a heat gun but I never tried that. Finally I saw a homemade formula online by simply using a mixture of 50% paint thinner and 50% boiled linseed oil. I...

2001 Amber Fire (orange) Pearl TJ in great condition

Mine is a 2001 same factory color also. I get lots of positive comments about the color.

Trouble searching for the perfect TJ

I wouldn't trust photos even if they did sent them. I'd want to see it in person. And, if it's a clean Jeep for a fair price, by the time you are done sending emails back and forth and trying to get photos it'll be sold. Rust usually isn't a problem for vehicles here in the Southwest, but just...

    Sorry, but silly question. Neither.

    1/2 Impact Air Wrench

After researching reviews and comparisons with snap on etc, I bought a Harbor Freight Earthquake XT a couple years ago and it has worked flawlessly. It has 3 torque setting and on the highest setting I have actually cracked the steel under the nut on an assembly I was working on (not a...

Cheap tubular bumper vs stock bumper in a wreck?

I just replaced my front and rear bumpers with some EAG bumpers. My front is solid stubby not all tubes like the one you show. It's this model... Bottom line is I was really surprised at how light the stock bumper was when I removed it. I could easily lift it with one hand... the replacement...

    Pulsing vibration over 60 mph

If it's not the wheels, tires, discs or drive shafts my guess would be the bearings. It could also be a bent axle/flange. Any leaks at the seals?

    Should the U-joint seal spin?

Those I have seen didn't turn but I didn't really try hard or to force them. So, they may have turned with a little effort. Their purpose is only to keep crud out of the bearings... as long as they are seated properly and the seal isn't damaged I think you should be just fine.

    Noisy/dirty windows

My wife could hardly crank my windows up or down. I replaced my outside door handles/paddles. Once I had everything apart it was pretty simple to clean and lube (use dry lube or silicone) all the moving parts and tracks. Made a huge difference and is fairly easy. An hour or two taking your time...
