How to make your Jeep unsalable

We are all guilty of spending our money unreasonably when it comes to these Jeeps. I think I might have qualified for some sort of prize in that category. Sometimes in our efforts to be different or stand out we completely miss the mark. As a dealer that regularly sells modified Jeeps I can tell...

SOLD 2004 LJ, 50k Original Miles, Nice Mods

I'm fairly new to the Forum with only a few posts. I have a large used car dealership in Fremont CA. and a staff of really good guys who got me into Jeeps. We have been around forever (30+ years) with a good reputation in the used car industry (easier said than done) and a huge wholesale...

I agree to a certain extent. If it was used for specific types of just crawling makes total sense. It's not used for just crawling but often used to tow a trailer, it regularly gets overloaded with gear in addition to the trailer. Remember, this is a promotional jeep that represents a dealership...

Added home made spring buckets in the back, replaced 4.5" lift springs in the front with 3.5" lift. Adjusted the spacers back up to a reasonable setting. Lowered the overall ride height by 2" (unloaded) after driving it around. Still a bit tall but settled to a much more acceptable stance and...

I did eventually break one of them and I totally get and share in the skepticism but all said and done they did hold up the abuse of dragging a trailer across the Rubicon. Fully loaded, food, gas, water, batteries etc... with a 40" spare from another rig on the roof rack. Trailer is pretty...

    Does this look right?

Agreed and the different spring ratios is basically what I have decided to try next at a lower ride height. Going to leave the Acos for now just because it's easier to adjust when I hook up the trailer. The desparity in ride height from the front to the back isn't a perfect spacer measurement...

Made it to 5 pages ...holy crap. I'm on it with my 3D printer, Effin MC springs, and upgrade to 54" tires..ha. I'll post some more pics when its all corrected and we can start all over. All kidding aside, thanks for the input.

Already done but might not even use it...when the spacer nut is adjusted back up to the top of the threads (near the frame) on the Acos it looks much better (I guess more normal). The whole thing started with the extreme adjustment required in the back to get the ride height level on springs...

    Does this look right?

You are correct, but the condition looks really funny with the Acos because the Acos mounts are super small and don't have a spring bucket at the top to theoretically support the grouping of coils if they were to compress beyond the top ring....make sense? ..so basically when you look down into...

If I understand you correctly, I disagree. "Guys that know" often stop in to inspect and also sometimes criticize some of the stuff on the display pads..including my TJ propped up on plastic rocks (can't believe nobody here called me out on that one in the profile pic). I keep plenty of well...

    Does this look right?

I wish I could say I'm not sorta guilty of this...In addition to my desire to make this jeep capable, its a sales tool and never stops working. Everything including the name and profile pic on this post is used to help sell product. It lives in a showroom most of the time. I'll admit I made some...

    Does this look right?

Agreed...and for the record the advice here has been great as usual so thanks to all for taking the time. I still have some weight to add to this thing and maybe even get rid of some of the weight that is existing (especially in the back)...then there's always the trailer thing that screws with...

    Does this look right?

The Acos is not adding compression...my bad. If I didn't adjust the Acos down a little over two inches in the back the weight of the vehicle lowers the ass end by two inches compared to the front even though they are both 4.5" lift springs.

    Does this look right?

Yes, I thought you meant coil overs. As Jerry put it, I bought into the MC sales pitch that these springs could help stabilize the on road ride quality a bit...thats mostly what I was after. The MC sales pitch made sense to me so was hoping to alleviate some of the sway from the large lift...

    Does this look right?

Ha..funny. I guess go big or go home? There's nothing stock about this rig and whether you love it or hate it doesn't bother me. It was my first jeep and honestly, it's been fun to learn since I started it well over a decade ago. A lot of the work was favors called in from the shops I work...
