Please help me solve the oscillating vibration crisis by providing some basic info on your Jeep

@freedom_in_4low In theory both of your drawings would have the same results. If you have two joints at each end of those pairs of joints (each double cardan) are cancelling each other's oscillations. So joints 1 and 2 cancel each other out and joints 3 and 4 cancel each other. With the double...

Front and rear turnkey driveshafts questions

If you choose to rebuild your stock shafts you can find information about how to do that here https://4xshaft.com/blogs/general-tech-info-articles/diy-u-joint-replacement. Just make sure that the splines move freely but are not loose and that the other parts that are not at-home rebuildable are...

Please help me solve the oscillating vibration crisis by providing some basic info on your Jeep

That's right. The extra double cardan takes up more space. The shortest we can build a double-double cardan is 17.625". Most TJ rear shafts are 15"-17".

Please help me solve the oscillating vibration crisis by providing some basic info on your Jeep

I've been tagged so here I am. I don't have the ambition to read the whole thread and catch up on the whole conversation so forgive me if my reply is a bit out of context. Here's the thing with a double cardan shaft at each end of the shaft, it is a heavy drive shaft, there is a lot more weight...

How does my driveshaft angle look

Looks about right, but as others have mentioned it is hard to say from a photo. Pinion should be 1-2 degrees less than the angle of the drive shaft. Here's how you can measure. https://4xshaft.com/blogs/general-tech-info-articles/slopes-vs-angles If you are asking because you are trying to...

    Rear driveshaft Centering ball yoke

We always use the greaseable 211355X. This is because in my opinion, when talking about the centering ball specifically, non-greaseable doesn't mean it doesn't need to be greased, it just means that you cant. Take a look at the photos below to see how the centering ball gets lubricated and...

    Front Driveshaft Issue

I think the drive shaft was always the wrong length and the journey you embarked upon by installing the lift led you to that discovery. Put the axle where you want it in the wheel well, the drive shaft should then be made or ordered to fit. The shaft you have looks like an aftermarket shaft...

    2005 TJ Rubicon u-joint

This is one of our shafts. The joint you need is a Spicer part number 5-213X for that end. The two joints in the double cardan are Spicer part number 5-153X. Here's some info on replacing the joint at home https://4xshaft.com/blogs/general-tech-info-articles/diy-u-joint-replacement. It's...

In need of a little drive shaft help

The OP did email me, and I just replied to the email. For the benefit of future readers and so that someone maybe smarter than me can weigh on my "measure the hertz" suggestion, I'll copy and paste my reply below. "I can't isolate the noise you are talking about in the video, I just hear a...

U-Joint Play In Rear Pinion Yoke

It's the yoke, you need to replace that yoke. It looks like one of the centering tabs is badly worn, it looks paper thin in that first picture. The joint is measuring out to the correct 1330 dimensions.

U-Joint Play In Rear Pinion Yoke

There should be zero gap though, the joint should snap into place in the yoke. It should fit snugly.

U-Joint Play In Rear Pinion Yoke

It sounds like you either have the wrong size joint in there or you have a bad yoke. Sometimes the yokes can get stretched. But because of the amount of gap you say you have between the yoke and joint I'm betting it's the wrong size joint. Many shafts do use conversion joints in the TJ Rubicon...

Rear Axle Adjustment And Drive Shaft Angles

Random odds and the whims of the spline manufacturer determine the length of the blue coating. Depending on the manufacturer they either dip or spray the blue nylon coating on the spline. Neither of which are exact processes and there is not a universal agreed upon length to begin with.

Rear Axle Adjustment And Drive Shaft Angles

The shaft is a little bit over-extended but not enough to be unsafe or problematic. More about that here https://4xshaft.com/blogs/faq/how-much-of-my-spline-should-be-showing

Questions for Shawn at Tom Woods

Much less often. But I still think once a year or so is a good idea. Simply because there's no harm in doing it more than necessary and it gets hot under your Jeep, the grease will break down, melt, and vacate the centering ball over time, even if the shaft is not spinning.

Questions for Shawn at Tom Woods

This is one of those things where eventually I'll make a video breaking down the differences between the different types of joints. I have some joints that I've done a cross-section cut away on to show the inner details of the joints. The plan is to measure out and compare all the dimensions and...

Haha. Upon proofreading my reply I actually edited "grease your shaft" and changed it to "grease your drive shaft" for this very reason. I'm doing my best to keep my replies PG as to not get banned from the forum. Fun fact about me, my last name is Wood, my mother's maiden name is Dix, and I...

Questions for Shawn at Tom Woods

1.What is the biggest mistake owners make installing drive shafts? Not remembering to grease the centering ball in the double cardan regularly after the initial install. Remember, your lifted Jeep’s shafts are running at steeper angles than they are really supposed to so wear life is a...
