    Driveshaft issues

It started with a bad vibration that I thought was just misalignment. I had some issues getting my axles squared due to some other work I did, but since came out on top. I heard a grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the front driveshaft so I replaced the centering yoke and the...

    Gear pattern check

Please help me confirm I’m set up right or need to adjust. The only swap was on an open diff to an LSD. gears were swapped out about 3 years ago by an off-road shop. The first pic is drive side, second is coast. Backlash set to .004-.005 based on measurement taken before swapping the diff. I...

    LSD backlash setup

Do the bearing cap bolts need to be torqued down before measuring backlash? I'm in the middle of setting up an DTT in the rear. The backlash before was right at .003-.004. Now with the LSD in there I'm getting around .020, but I have not torque the carrier bolts yet, for fear I may have to...

How do your body mounts look?

What do you guys think of these? This is only right side. I read to stay away from poly and trust the rubber bushings. What symptoms could bad mounts cause? Overall, I love driving this rig but it's just never felt solid when I drive. Had it almost 4 years and bought from a dealer...

    Scratching behind the bell housing?

This has probably gone on for about a year and a half, but now it's bugging me. This scratching noise sounds bad, but truthfully the vehicle works fine. Transmission doesn't slip, but a little into 2nd gear when it's not warmed up. The pulleys are in order, none of them corroded or loose and...

(Solved) ABS sensor replacement gone wrong

Last year, I replaced an ABS sensor that I pinched while replace the wheel hubs. It's the front driver side and the '05 has an ABS system. So, I bought a direct replacement for the wire from Rock Auto but strangely, when I replaced it the ABS light goes off but I lose brake power. Actually...

    Trektop NX storage solved!

The Trektop NX soft top is pretty sweet. Good quality, not too hard to take on and off, but the damn windows are large and they just don’t fit in the back even with the seats out. So I spent some time making this contraption; let me know what you think. You sacrifice the top sun roof for this...

Synergy ball joints bad after only 7k miles

Literally replaced all 4 ball joints less than 7k miles ago and the passenger side upper and lower are moving when I do the tire test. Drivers side is tight with no issues however. All 4 were Synergy. Anyone else ever had bad luck with these joints?

Installing control arms and aligning help

So, moved to Missouri now and I think I've got some sever alignment issues. I have all 4 control arms from Savvy installed up front and will be putting on the 4 rear this weekend. Right now, I've got steering wheel shimmy, a slight pull to the right, vibrations between 20-40mph and then again...

Boring out a control arm bushing

Maybe need some guidance. Installing the Savvy DA control arms, but the stock bushings hole is too small and won't fit so I tried boring out with a 7/16" drill bit to finish this install and this thing is defeating me! Anyone ever do this? I grinded away for an hour yesterday and I'm not sure...

    Greg's 4x4 (Longmont, Colorado) Rant

Greg's 4x4 - Longmont, CO. Long story short, great employees, first impression of owner was nice, and then he tried to s**t on me...so use this guy at your own risk... Read on if you're looking for a shop in Colorado and can't find reviews, or if you just want to read my rant. Either way, I...

    Upgrading brake lines?

Hopefully this isn't sparking old debates, but I feel like I've exhausted researches and can't find a clear answer. Are stainless steel and braided brake hoses worth it? My mechanic says rear drums are well adjusted and have plenty of life but I really don't feel the braking power on these 33's...
