01 TJ soft top replacement

Looking for a new soft top. Finally time to replace the original. What brand do you recommend? Vinyl or fabric?

Go with Bestop if you like to spend money. You get a free tramp stamp with it. I went with Sierra Offroad Trilogy material for under $300 and couldn't be happier. It's quieter than my Bestop and still doing great 2 years later.

Bestop Sail cloth would a factory replacement if you have the $700.
There are less expensive soft tops, but you get what you pay for.
Shortly after purchasing my '01 ('20) I replaced the Smitybuilt with a Bestop.
The quality difference between the two is quite noticeable.

I replaced the ragged rampage top the PO had on my jeep with a bestop sailcloth. Did a lot of research and everything I read said that was the best for longevity, noise reduction, water”proof”ness, etc. If they made the twill top in the spice color I would have done that, most people say they are as quiet as a hard top but who knows. I learned long ago buy once, cry once.
The sailcloth is definitely more quiet than the rampage top, but that thing was in such bad shape it’s not really a fair comparison. I’m sure there are plenty of others on here that have had multiple tops with a better opinion than me.

What’s the issue with the frameless soft tops? Are they just not as good quality as the framed versions?

Yes, you need the frame. I like the frameless top, but never tried theirs, so I can't recommend it. I don't know if they make it in the thicker material either. I had an old Bestop Trektop NX frameless top that fit perfectly.
