'06 Subwoofer Not Working

Hey everyone, I just recently purchased my first Jeep, and I wanted to get the subwoofer working. I'm not looking to upgrade the speaker, but I do want to get it working so my Jeep's stereo doesn't sound so tinny. Here's what i've done so far:

1. I've checked the fuse behind the console to make sure the sub fuse isn't blown. It wasn't.
2. I tore apart the console and found out that the sub is a replacement quadratec sub installed by the previous owner, so I know the sub is not blown.
3. I checked the wiring in the console and did not find any severed or broken wires.

I was thinking it might be the amp, because I didn't think to check it when I tore apart the console. But here's what's weird. The sub worked a couple times on and off right after I bought it, but it hasn't worked since. Also, all of the other speakers in the Jeep work just fine.

Any ideas?

Re-think #2, and check the speaker first.

What makes you think the sub is not blown? Just because its Quadratec? Their stuff is mediocre.

When my sub went, OEM/Mopar Jeep had 12k miles at the time. You could never tell that its the sub as the sub itself looked new, the Jeep is stored inside, driven on sunny days etc. I figured, can't be the sub.. the Jeep is almost new.

So don't let the physical condition, age etc. fool you. Properly check the sub.

Thanks for the insight. I guess just because none of the cone was torn and it worked a couple times before, I just assumed it was fine. I’ll check it out.

Yah mine was the same way. Cone looked intact. Then I could hear faint noises coming from it which really confirmed that it was in fact dead.

Just a thought. I hooked up a sub with it's own amp running from my Kenwood head unit and was getting no bass. I went into the on the head unit and found settings for bass. Bumped them up and it works fine.

I did try going through all of my settings on my head unit, and I turned up all of the settings for bass. Nothing. I should try hooking up a different sub with it's own amp though. Thanks for the idea.

Well, your suspicions were correct. The sub looked fine, but after plugging it into it's own amp, it was definitely blown. Thanks for the help!
