Need recommendations for mounting subwoofer

Hi Folks,

I bought a new system for my 2005:

1. Amp = Kicker 42PXA2001
2. Polk Audio DB 522
3. Polk Audio DB 462

and the problem child.... subwoofer = Kicker CompRT 43CWRT672

My problem: my center console doesnt have the factory subwoofer option. and the person installing the system says that the size of the subwoofer is not a common size for a box to put in the cargo area.

I cannot return the sub to crutchfield so i have 2 options... sell (obviously) and get a 10" sub to put in a box — i will NEED RECOMMENDATIONS to match the above system i bought or...... buy a different console.

HELP.
**please tell me the better option. and if it entails changing the subwoofer that i bought so it can just go in a sub box, what sub should i buy?

I put a slimline 8" sub in my center console. Required some minor fab work, but nothing too difficult.

I mounted my sub underneath the back seat. This also helps with the elements during the summer in case you run into rain. I used a Rockford Fosgate PS-8. Very please with the sound.

Your console should have a white plastic inner pocket for storage. I removed that inner pocket, sealed the top shut with some MDF and epoxy, then reinforced the speaker hole so the speaker structurally had someplace to call home.

Davey's Jeeps also sells used inserts. Given that your installer said the sub is not a common size, you'll probably have to modify the insert. It's a place to start, though. Also, the factory sub was surprisingly shallow compared to the sub I originally bought (and ended up having to return). The TJ's factory sub is a weird, pain in the ass design.

Depending how far down the rabbit hole you want to go, Tuffy sells a solid center console with a factory sub cut-out option.

Get a console that will hold a sub in it off eBay or your local junkyard

Slide it under the drivers seat. Then the music will really move you.
