10.5” vs 12.5” tire width?

Would 32x11.50-15 be a good compromise size?

I would like to see how a 10.50 versus a 12.50 in 33" diameter affects mileage and performance with correct gearing.

I am considering going with a 33x10.50 to save weight and gain mpg.
You won’t be able to tell a difference. With 31x10.5’s and 3.73 gears I got everywhere from 10-15 mpg. With 33x12.5’s I got everywhere from 10-15 mpg. The 10 was usually while pulling a trailer around town.

What backspace are 8”wheels and how far do they stick out past the flares?
8” wheels differ in backspace. Mine are 3.625, others are 3.75 or 4. 4 is about perfect for a TJ. No one can answer your question exactly. Just look at various pics with flare width, tire widths and BS known and make your decision.

Rubicon and Sahara have a 4.5” flare. The rest have 3.5”

That looks good. I was considering the km2/km3 muds in that size. The 10.5/12.5 decision is wearing on me. Thanks

Here's a side shot. The pizza cutter look isn't for everyone, but I like it. I'm not a fan of getting mud thrown up the side of the jeep.

They also allow better clearance for when you want to get flexy,

4" backspacing, 9" wide wheel, 11.5" tires. It's the average of all the things you're considering. Note: I have Rubicon flares, so I have a little more coverage. I like it. Just enough outside the flare to look the part, but not so much that I get a ton of stuff flinging off the tires up the sides.

Just remplaced my BF 10. 50 with Bridgestone 12.50....old rims was 7.5 ". New one are 9.5".

What I immediately felt is that handling is very much affected by this changement . I'm having trouble keeping control of the car on the highway. The new wheels move in all directions. I tried to make settings at the steering box. It's much better but it's still dangerous to drive on the highway. For consumption (mpg) there has been no change. It's the same like with old tires ... In terms of acceleration and top speed I feel that the car is slower and heavier. But aesthetically, it's definitely more beautiful.

I try to build based on function, not looks. I put on 10.5 KO's on the LJ on monday, then I figured out the replacement fender flare on the drivers front was only 3.5" wide and the others were 5", so now I need to find a 5" flare locally, paint it and then check the axle center. Projects and delays galore...
