2 quick, stupid questions

1) Hard to describe, but the front fenders have a gap between the fender proper and the wheel well, near the battery on the passenger side, and in an identical location on the driver's. Clear as mud? Anyway, there was mastic of some kind on one side that was all dirty and dried out, and none on the other side which had allowed muddy water to splash into the engine compartment. Anyway, I cleaned up the area, and will apply new mastic that I have on hand tomorrow, unless someone here has a better idea...

2) Any problems with drilling holes and inserting screws into the upper windshield escutcheon (between the visors)? I want to put a GPS holder there, seems perfect! Seems there is some room between the plastic and the metal windshield frame...

The mastic is fine to renew , a little nylon mesh tape after a light coat makes it stronger.

I dont know if the plastic is strong enough , I'd use a fender washers on the back to distribute the stress if I did it .

Yea, that plastic seems a bit weak kneed - was thinking about a backing plate of some sort.

Like Andy said, I'd brace it on both sides of the plastic escutcheon, maybe with a bracket on the backside going from screw to screw with washers. Now I need to get an escutcheon, I just have to stare at white metal above my rear view mirror. Maybe I'll make one out of carbon fiber.

Before I drilled into mine , I'd hang a bracket off that windshield strap loop with zip ties , Velcro the back to plastic to stop movement and mount the gospel to that ... and get the little plastic tools for interior trim at harbor freak to hide the wires behind that panel with no damage.

Remove visors I think , and use the tools I mentioned above . I'd leave it and utilize that metal loop and zip ties or a hose clamp , a plate and Velcro or a little silicone .

Some guys remove them . I think they add to the plush interior feel, like rich, Corinthian leather.

I mentioned to my wife last week that this dude Zorba on the TJ forum is a belly dancer near Cocoa where we used to live. She said “that’s awesome, I used to hang out with some of those dudes when we used to live there, let’s go see him next time we go back!” @Zorba it’s a date, I want to check out your escutcheon.
