Hi all,
I am on the hunt for a jeep and trying to find out what diff ratio is in one Im looking at.
I have the vin but no luck searching for this detail. Any good sites that would give me that info?
Thanks much!

Look on the differential in person when you can, there is a tag - and I know this is crazy- but make sure the front and rear match. It has happened. Way worse than opening a box of shows that are 2 different sizes.

This actually brings up the question of why were there so many diff gearing ratios?
Were the auto,s and 4 bangers the lower and manuals the higher?

  • 1997-2006 – Dana 35c 194mm
  • Rear axle on all models but Rubicon and Aust export (Dana 44 optional)
  • Gear ratios: 3.07, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56
  • 1997-2006 – Dana 44 216mm
  • Optional rear axle on all models but Rubicon and Aust exports
  • Gear ratios: 3.55 (97 only) 3.07 (05-06 Aust export) 3.73
  • Trac-Lok limited slip differential on early models, optional on later models
  • WMS to WMS: 60.5″
  • 5 on 4.5″ bolt pattern
  • Steel fill plug
  • 2003-2006 – Dana 44 216mm
  • Rubicon Rear Axle
  • Gear ratio: 4.10

Wasting time on a Saturday afternoon lol
If its a 4.0 manual after 97 then it will have either 3.07 or 3.73 regardless a 35 or 44 and a 97 will have 3.55
unless it has Rubi 44,s with 4.10 or been re geared.
