After researching Supercharger/Turbo option for my 2003 TJ it seems as though no tuner exists as part of the kit. I was looking at he sprintex kit on quadratec but they told me that I would need to go with a stand alone fuel system and no tuner could be sold with the supercharger hardware that would work.

Does anyone have any information on how to integrate a supercharger on an 03? Why is it different than the 05... ecu programming?

Any help is appreciated. I need to get more power and the Supercharger seemed to be a good option.

Thanks in advance,

Ty

Check these guys out I was getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these but bought a newtruck instead boosted technologies

In order of best to worse superchargers for the 4.0, this is how I would rank them:

- Magnum Powers
- Boosted Tech
- Sprintex

There may be others, but those are the ones I am familiar with and have experience with.

Magnum Powers is above and beyond all the others. Charles doesn't use a repurposed Eaton supercharger like Boosted Tech, he uses a custom design that is 20% more efficient. Charles also produces every single part for the kit himself, with the exception of the rotors / screws. I've been to his place here in Oregon and met him in person. He has a foundry where he actually builds all the cast molds and more. In addition, on his property, he has a massive machine shop that is absolutely full of all sorts of machinery (lathes, CNC equipment, and more parts than you can imagine). That guy is smart beyond belief, seriously. One trip to his place and I guarantee you that you'd be in awe. He's the real deal.

Boosted Tech is good and I ran one on my old TJ. I have no complaints, though I will say that Mark (who runs the company) is very lacking in terms of knowledge. He bought the company from Rick Rimmer who stayed on to help with the technical side, but then he apparently screwed Mark over and just disappeared entirely from what I understand.

Sprintex isn't bad, but after speaking with Charles from Magnum Powers about their superchargers, I wouldn't use them based off what he's told me.

Lastly, there is a reason the Magnum Powers unit is much more expensive than the others. For one, it's a newer and more efficient design, capable of running much more boost. For two, it includes a water to air intercooler system, so you can actually run a much higher psi and make power. You won't be able to make much more than 6-7 psi on the Boosted Tech system, as it isn't intercooled.

If you can still find a Banks turbo kit it would come with a tuner and tune. Banks has discontinued the kit but some Banks dealers still have them. Diablo supplies the Banks tuners.

There are tuning options for our Jeeps. I have a Kenne Bell Supercharger on my Jeep and Ryan with www.frptuning.com remotely tuned it for me. The supercharger makes a drastic improvement when you're on the road, I can actually pass people on the interstate and it's a ton of fun around town.

The Brute I posted in the for sale finds section has the Kenne Bell on it too... huge difference over stock, I believe they had it custom tuned as well, but I'm not sure who they went with for the tuning.

What is the cost breakdown of running a supercharger on a 4.0 versus putting in a LS, 350, or a diesel like a 1.8 VW or a 2.8 Cummins? If an engine swap is somewhere near the cost of a supercharger it may be the best route.

I love my Kenne Bell! I did custom work and custom tuning, it moves!

That's really difficult to quantify... depends if you do the labor yourself and how much you value your time.. lol

A supercharger can be installed in a weekend, and you retain the low RPM tractor engine grunt of the 4.0 offroad. You can also fab up a turbo yourself for cheap or a used blower, depends on your skills.

LS is time consuming but parts are reasonable once you get the adapters, wiring, gauges, cooling, and tuning figure out..

an 2.8 Cummins , better have deep pockets!

Oh. I thought when Cummins said they were doing the 2.8 for (mostly) the Jeep community to have an affordable upgrade to the stock engine choices they meant affordable in normal working man's terms. I suppose the "almost drop in" means something completely different than what I think too.

It's an $8k engine, plus everything else to get it in so I'm assuming a $10-12K swap. That's more than I paid for my Rubicon, no thanks lol
