2004 Jeep LJ with 482 miles for sale for only $68,000

Not sure if it is the same one, but a Dallas dealership had 2 red LJ's with unusually low mileage last winter-IIRC one was right about those numbers.

How does that even happen? Do people have the resources and foresight to buy a vehicle just to let it sit for close to 20 years and sell it? Is that an investment strategy?

This probably. There have also been cases of dealers either forgetting or purposely sticking way in the back of there warehouse only to be discovered when the business closes or changes ownership.. It's crazy though, no matter how it happens.
Makes me wonder how often somebody does that with a vehicle that never gets any collector status. Just like any investment, it's a gamble if you don't have a crystal ball.
Carfax states it was serviced at Pierson Chevrolet an oil change and axel inspection Gadsden AL. I don't put to much stock in Carfax. I can also look up current owner by Vin. (don't ask me how or I would have to kill you) Its shows a current owner Sanchez Repair and Inspection in McAllen TX. With the Jeep showing it has an Owner I highly doubt the MSO (Manufacture Statement of Origin)

True. It's fun to watch the auctions for these types. They usually garner more than original sticker, but my guess is that's just nostalgic bidding not investment bidding.
Think about this, I bought a LJR in 2016 for $9.500, had 38K miles, no rust but a bad trans. How much would that LJ bring today? I think we can agree it would be over $20K. That tells me there is more demand than supply of LJ's which has created a collector priced market for at least LJR's. It is all about supply and demand.
