Hi all, I'm new to this forum. Personally, I bought my first Jeep in 1991 while in college, a 1978 Jeep CJ 5 with the 304 AMC V8. I smelled like exhaust all through college and learned to work on them.
I have FR in College and Sr in HS, and bought them a 2005 TJ and 2008 JK respectively, and realized they break as much as my CJ, ha.
On the TJ, I'm chasing a squeal. Replaced the Tensioner and Idler pulleys and the belt. I then read about the OPDA, but I shot some WD40 on the back of the power steering, and the sound changed, left for just a second, I thought I'd found it. Changed the power steering pump, nope. I did keep the same pulley, but don't see how that could matter. I put $5 in "belt conditioner" made no change. Cleaned the smooth wheel for the fan that the belt rides, ran super light sandpaper, and cleaned it, zero change.
At this point, it's the fan.....AC.....or maybe OPDA? I shot WD40 on the backs of the pulleys, shouldn't fix, but it should make some change, right.
Now, I've looked at the Crown Auto OPDA.......andit is out of stock...everywhere. 4wheel parts has a location in Austin, I talked to him, and he called Crown directly, they don't anticipate having them until August or September???
Any recommendations at all are welcome. I'm not an expert, but not a total noob. I can fix, but the diagnosis part I'm really struggling with here.
