32RH problems

2002 4.0 32rh trans. Problem is it doesn't always shift into park and most times it won't start in park also shifting into drive have to give shifter a little slap to engage into drive. I've tried adjusting shifter cable and it will either go into park or into drive but not both.

How's the fluid level in neutral?

I've checked that and it's on full mark

If you have to slam the shifter to get it into P I would be initially leaning toward a shifter cable adjustment.
