32RH Transmission Question

So I have an '01 Sahara with the 32RH tranny. I've had my Wrangler for almost a year now, so I'm becoming more familiar with its behaviors.

I've noticed that my Jeep likes to upshift from 2nd to 3rd a lot unless I'm really on the throttle (like if I give it some gas, it'll downshift, but it likes to upshift back to 3rd unless I'm going really hard on the throttle, then it'll stay in second all through the powerband) I'm not sure if this is normal. The tranny shifts unbelievably smooth, arguably smoother than the DSG on my VW.

Also, I have 33' tires on my TJ that were on there when I bought it, and have no idea whether or not it was re-geared accordingly.

It is likely you have 3.07's unless you have re-geared. So running 33's will have it "hunting" between 2nd and 3rd often.

I’m pretty sure that the ‘01Sahara should have come with 3.73. Mine did and it wasn’t an optional upgrade.

If it helps at all, I’m on 33s with the 32rh and most people said that it wasn’t worth regearing from 3.73 to 4.10 (which is the correct ratio for that trans and tire combo) since it was such a small jump. However, when I finally installed lockers five years later and regeared at the same time I noticed an immediate difference. I should have regeared years ago.

X2. That's exactly what it sounds like.

My 42RLE was the same way with the stock 4.10 gears. It was constantly hunting for gears in the city, so much so that it was getting really, really annoying. Switching to 4.88 gears alleviated the issue almost entirely.

This is on 33" tires.

I just went through the OPs previous posts. He has the Dana 35 rear axle, which came with 3.07. Mine has the Dana 44 which came with 3.73. So please ignore my previous post, except for that part about recommmending a regear.
