My teenagers 2000 Wrangler Sport 4.0 with 154k miles. Engine overheated on him and had coolant spraying. I’m trying to identify the leak location I found two places. Thermostat housing was one, but the other was on passenger side near the forward most spark plug. It was actively bubbling there. Is this likely a crack in the head or what? Also is root cause of the overheat most likely thermostat, water pump, etc??? Thanks.

Root cause could be any of those items, Poor coolant condition w/ dirty clogged radiator inside and out, fan clutch going out, water pump on last leg, bad thermostat....
Having coolant in that location is most likely the heater hose tube at the top of your circle so either the tube is rusted thru or there was an issue with the hose. Check oil for a milky look and coolant for visible issues. any white smoke out the tailpipe? Take a look in the oil fill on the valve cover also looking for any visible issues. The coolant tube from the water pump is replaceable and usually readily available.
