Not a fan.
the quadrates might be the plan

I believe you. I’m going with the recommended 4”

now just deciding on wheels and tires. I like silver wheels. Painted or machined is fine.

You will be happy there.

For reference, this is a 12.50 on a 9” wide wheel with 3.75” of BS. Rubicon flairs.

I'm running 4.63" BS with 35x12.5". I had to adjust my steering stops with a few washers but I still feel I have a good turning radius. They are very tucked with only a little tire poke with Rubicon flares.

I'd definitely go with either 3.75 or 4" backspacing. And since you live in SoCal as I do too and you're surrounded by trails with big rocks on them, get wheels you won't mind them getting rock rash or worse on them.

Have to ask. What is Backspacing? Is it the same as wheel spacers?
Back spacing is distance from the wheel's mounting surface to the inner most wheel rim closest to the suspension. The less backspacing the further out the wheel is positioned. That's what the below yellow tape measure is measuring which is right at 5" or so.

i never wanted spacers but when I couldn't find any 15x8 with looks and backspacing I liked as much as my current wheels, I caved and bought 1.25" spacers to bring my effective backspacing to 4".

If installed correctly they're perfectly safe, there's just the annoyance of having to basically remove a second wheel after the first one, before you can remove the brake rotor.
