Tj 42rle auto trans making humming noise, it only has 300, 000 miles on it and till now the jeep has been great, minor repairs, it is a 2005 and hauling 2000 lb water trailer around since new, so no complaints whatsoever. Now I am afraid to drive it and need help diagnosing what the noise might be. I have had some experience with marine trans which are similar and I think that because the noise is there without moving the jeep it must be somewhere up front , maybe the torque convertor bushing or the oil pump, but except for the noise the trans works ok. Being in Hawaii limits my options as trans rebuilders will not ship here and the local trans shops are full up and charge exorbitant rates, 6000, by one shop. I will rebuild it myself but before I start it would be nice to get some ideas from you knowledgeable Jeep guys, thanks for any input.
