I just bought a 97 tj with a blown up 2.5l engine. It came with a “good” junk yard engine. I was just wondering and parts I should go ahead and change on the junkyard engine before I install it .

Do the timing chain/guides while you have it out. What went bad with the engine that is in it? i dont see these engines blow up as often unless someone really tried.
It looks like it had a intake leak and ran a little lean on one cylinder and the rod came out the bottom of the oil pan. But yeah I thought it was strange also with only 99k miles on it
YeahAfter toying around with 2.5's the last almost 14 years they do tend to wear out timing chain sets as mentioned, have replaced 3 sets so far along with exhaust manifolds and ignition coils that crack open as they age. Other then that the 2.5's are a reliable powerhouse

The OEM melling pump is not a weak spot and I consider the water pump a consumable.
