98 TJ randomly bogs out

Hey so I’ve been stumped by this problem. So I have a 98 tj 4.0 with 5 speed. And at random I’ll be driving and it would just have no throttle response like the engine would loose power, And low idle. But when I either just shut it off and restart. It’s fine or after a few min it goes away. Anyone had the simulator problem or anything.

But to answer your question, I would check over your ignition system for starters. I had a similar problem on my '95 YJ. Ended up being bad spark plugs wires. Plugs, cap, and wires is cheap insurance and needs to be done routinely anyways.

Could also be a clogged fuel filter. When was the last time you replaced that?

Is it throwing a check engine light? If so, what codes is it throwing when you scan it?

Mine did that when the fuel pump was going out. It did not set a check engine light. Check your fuel pressure.

I would check your air filter. I had a full CVS receipt on mine somehow. Under heavy load the bendable part of the air tub would collapse and kind of seal itself shut until the vacuum behind it went away(engine off).

But probably fuel pump.
