Advice on new wheels

Background..... i ordered new tires Cooper STT Pro's 33x12.5xr15. they will be in a week from monday. July 23rd.


Now I’m starting to this this might be a great time to change my wheels. It won’t cost anything as the tires are not mounted. But the problem I have is what kind. I am just not sure if I should stay with basic black of go silver. Stay steel or go alloy. So many choices and I don’t know what I want.

if you bought the tires from a place that sells both wheels and tires like discounttiredirect.com they would mount and balance them for free. I am not a black wheel fan, maybe something like a gun metal gray with your blue jeep?

Far too many choices. Plus, wheels are pretty personal style wise.

I'd stay with what you have, especially if they are in good shape and balance well for you with your current tires. They will look great with the more aggressive Cooper STT Pro's. I just bought new and went with alloys since they weighed less and are typically easier to balance. But, I still got a black alloy wheel that looks like the classic Soft 8 . That me though...I still love the Soft 8 or D-Window 15x8 look on TJ's.

Alloy, and on your color Jeep, I am not a fan of black, it’s too drab. Go for a wheel that has black and silver, it will really improve the look. Something that makes it pop.

Also, a cheap, but good mod would be to repaint those flares. If you can prep well with them still on the Jeep, you can slip index cards between them and the tub and paint them. SEM Black is good

Hmm... never heard of SEM paint. After looking at it. I might gice it a try. I was just going to put new ones on but if it works it will save me cash.
Eventually im going to repaint the entire jeep. Just waiting for the right color to pop into my head.
Im half tempted to paint it to match my wifes sportster.

Beautiful color! Make sure it works with the wheels you finally go with!

There are some good write-ups on painting the flares on here. Important thing is good prep!

Yeah i was reading through them. I have painted a lot of things- aircraft and parts- motorcycles - a few car parts - fiberglass and carbon fiber. Just never thought about trying to paint plastic and vinyl. I just thought they would move/flex/stretch to much. This just goes to show me that I need to keep up on new things.

With your Jeep, I would go with a polished aluminum wheel.

As you can probably tell, I like the black, especially because you don't have any silver or chrome on the TJ. I like the black, I know I don't have them myself, but I really like the satin black American Racing wheels. Kind of like what @lowranger has. I ended up with matte black long story. I don't hate them, and they shine up nice with wax, but get dull really fast in the dirt. Need to wax to get them shiny again, where as the satin shines waxed or not.

I know I am a little off, but that's me!

BTW I like the color of your Jeep too!
