Aftermarket A/C?

Hey guys. I have a 97 TJ (new purchase after serious sellers remorse with old 97 TJ) with a build sheet that has the “A/C Bypass” on it, which I’m under the impression that means it came factory without AC, but... there is an A/C setup in it. Any of you guys out there with a 97 with factory installed AC have a control panel that looks like this?

My 97 panel with factory AC. You seem to be missing the top vent and the AC recirculating options.

That’s exactly what I thought, when I put the selector on the one and only AC setting it does blow out of the top vent, but the recirculating function I’m unsure of. Thanks for the help.

Interesting! Maybe it was manufactured without a/c, but then had it dealer installed after the fact, and included a new face plate? Maybe Jeeps manufactured without a/c don't get the actuators needed for a recirc function installed in the HVAC box, so when the a/c is added later, you still don't get that feature?

I have to admit, the install is VERY clean, almost like a dealer, or at the very least a detail oriented person, did it. The wiring harnesses look legit, holes in the firewall are precise, etc. I have not been able to find another one like it though as of yet. I sent some pics off to Davey’s this morning in hopes he can help me get it back operational and maybe even give me some info on how it came to be.

HI @NyTj13, i have a 97 TJ with the exact same AC controls as you , and what appears to be factory AC. The AC works great, issue I am having how is when I want to use heater I dont have a way to blow heat to dash vents. Did you figure anything else out on this? Was it a dealer installed AC? I am wondering if I can swap out the AC control units to the other one with AC recirc and heater options and make that work?
