Airbox Relocation

I am trying my find a way to relocate my air intake. I have seen multiple ways to do it, but there are never any good directions. I've seen buick airboxes being used and windstar airboxes. Has anyone on here done this? I'm planning on routing the air intake into the cowl vent or passenger side cowl with a humvee style intake. River raider has a kit, but I'm not about to drop $500 for something that can be done homemade.

My main "goals" in doing this:
-free up my passenger side inner-fender area for an air compressor
-slightly raise air intake (already raised breather lines and attached to current airbox)
-be mounted above engine in a clean way
-use a widely avaliable filter
-not hinder airflow/ needs to work as well as stock
-not allow water into intake when located in cowl

If anyone has done this, has a write up, or ideas I'd love to see and maybe "steal" the ideas.

I needed space for my winch solenoid. I just cut a hole in the box back without moving it. Still have to add a bit of plumbing.

 

[Stinger]

There are a couple of kits out there. One is by Specter, another is MCAI originally made by a fellow in Henderson, NV. He sold the production to another and I have not seen it yet back for sale. I have the MCAI on Stinger. It gave me about 1.5 mpg increase. Basically, it has aluminum tube with rubber(ish) connectors running to a hole you cut in the firewall. A plate is provided to hook the tubing into. Inside the cowling area the tube is capped with a K&N filter. The cowl itself is sealed, the windshield wipers have a grommet that almost seals them. With the cowl grill is cut out and a reverse scoop it fit to the cut out. Under the scoop is mounted the factory filter. This serves as a primary filter to the K&N and providers filter air to the cabin. The wind flow off the windshield produces a positive pressure into the scoop. The water drain below the wiper motor is plugged with a material like Scotch Brite pads. I never had a water ingestion issue even in the heaviest down pour.
The only drawback to this set up was an increase in cabin noise under WOT. Wife called Stinger Darth Vader after I installed it.
I can't speak to the Specter kit. I have only seen pictures. Look in Quadratec. They may have more on it.
