99 TJ 4.0 AX15 1" motor mount lift, 1.25" body lift, 4" Savvy short arm suspension. Previous owner told me the engine had been swapped from a 99-ish cherokee. I've had it for about 5 years and it's always been a little...off. The gear shift would hit the body when going into reverse, the fan would slightly rub the shroud if it was twisted up on some rocks, and the AC pulley would contant the upper radiator hose. I always thought it was just the "features" of an old jeep. Then my pistons failed so I pulled the head off to replace them with the block still in the frame. With the intake and exhaust out of the way the drivers motor mounts was clearly off. The block mount was shoved way to the back of the frame mount. Looking at the transmission mount I could tell it was pushed significantly to the passenger side. Eureka! This is the source of all my problems. I ordered an anchor 2882 and imagine my surprise when I pulled out the mount from the transmission and found the two were not even close to matching. The 2882 attaches to the transmission plate with 4 bolts and is centered to the skid plate. The one I took out only has 2 bolts to the plate, and offsets to the skid plate. Turns out the plate and mount came from a cherokee. Mount part number 2625. I went to the junkyard and found probably the only TJ trans plate in existence. At this point things are going wayyyyy to well. I unbolted the cherokee plate from the trans, bolted in the TJ plate and rubber mount, and hoisted up the skid plate. A little wiggling and the rubber mount dropped in the skid plate slots. BUT the t-case is resting on the skid plate and there's about a 1/4 inch of space between the skid plate and the rubber mount. FML. I don't think the MML would cause the t-case to hit the skid but I've been wrong once before. I did notice the cherokee mount is about an inch taller than the TJ mount. I really don't want to put the cherokee mount back in but I'm running out of ideas. The first Pic shows a junkyard TJ mount and the cherokee mount attached to the cherokee plate.

The TJ and XJ 4.0s are not universally interchangeable. The motor mount bracket locations on the block are different.

The date code stamped in the block is 99. It looks like the major changes are accessory drive, coil pack, and AC mounting. I don't have issues with any of those. I would think the motor mounts would be off by a mile, not millimeters.
Ax15. Here are some pics of the motor mounts with the XJ trans mount installed. Passenger side looks pretty square, driver side has a gap in the rear, consistent with the trans being offset to the passenger side. I have a new set of MORE MMLs to put in today.
