Well my plastic radiator has a pin hole in it, again. This is the second one that stated leaking on the top from a pin hole crack. I guess 2 radiators in 17 years isn’t to bad considering they are plastic. This time I decided to get an aluminum one.
Now to find the right one, tons of the on Amazon, good prices and some with a year warranty. Then I started to read the reviews and over half of them starting leaking out of the box or within the first year and not easy to get a replacement one. That’s worse than the plastic ones.
Cold case has a nice one with a lifetime warranty but it’s not cheap.
I saw a lot of great reviews on the Champion radiator, very well made, they are local is so-cal, good price $224.00 and a lifetime warranty.
I am getting the 2 core instead of the 3 or 4 core. The 2 core has bigger tubing for cooling.
I ordered one on Thursday and got it the next day, also it was on sale for $20.00 off.
Installed it Saturday morning, I also replaced the upper and lower hoses ( they are the original ones.
Straight forward install (you will need 4 bolts to install the the fan shroud because the factory ones are screws and the radiator has pressed in nuts, they are the same size as the radiator bolts)
My Jeep would run around 210 dead center on the gauge and now it’s running about 190ish. I heard the run a little cooler because the aluminum is more efficient.
I would recommend going with the aluminum instead of the plastic 100%.
