While I agree with diplomacy in most cases, there are certain people that it simply will not work with.

The one time I encountered people off roading in a wilderness area and calmly explained to them what they're doing I was basically told to "fuck off".

Yes, that's happened to me before as well. As much as I want to try and correct people on what they are doing wrong, I'm simply not willing to get in some sort of backwoods brawl (or gun fight for that matter).

I can visually look at some of these people (usually the trouble makers) and tell if they are the types who are going to get all crazy if I say something. Those are the guys that no amount of diplomacy will work with.

It's exactly those actions that get roads closed down for everybody.

It's these sorts of people and encounters that made me start carrying a gun with me in the wilderness at all times. I've never owned one until I started making these trips.

I'm with you 100%. I never carry a gun on me anywhere except when we go out in the woods. I'm simply not willing to chance it. There's a lot of idiots out there (and wildlife) and it's nice to have the gun, just incase.

When I see people doing shit like that, it makes me wish I was a forest ranger, just so that I could ticket their stupid asses.

Which is funny, because all you read about in the "news" is nuclear weapons. They never focus on anything like this an EMP weapons, let alone cyber warfare. That's what people should be genuinely worried about... not nuclear weapons.

EMP and cyber warfare don't fit neatly into the ongoing storyline. They are complicated and esoteric subjects. How do you explain a potential natural phenomena to the scientifically ignorant that we can neither predict with any certainty nor explain in simple terms? Then try explaining a nuclear weapon that gives off a bright flash of light and a dense magnetic flux, but nothing else.

Don't get me started on the issues of man made climate change.

I get it. When you're catering to an audience of people whose favorite show is "The Bachelor" or "Keeping up with the Kardashians", you've got to dumb things down significantly. "Nuclear Bomb" is a much better clickbait headline than "EMP".

And yeah, I'm with you on the man made climate change thing as well. I really don't want to even get into that one either.

WA state is going the same way basically King county now controls the entire state with their tree huggers and anti gun agendas because they have the votes, If we were younger the move to Idaho or Utah would be done by now and if it gets worse it will happen anyway!!!!!!! Sad state of affairs!

Here's a strategy and some tactics that I use when I run across the more egregious and wonton acts "out there". It takes some balls and commitment to the cause.

If it looks like civil discourse won't work, back off. Use your woodsman's skills to take pictures of faces and licence plates on your cell phone. Record your position on your GPS. Make notes of what is going on, when, where, etc. in your write-in-the-rain notebook. Initial your notes. Then drop by your local authoritie's office and share your stuff. I know the local Sheriff loves this, though you will get a lecture on risk. The local rangers like it as well. They may not be able to pop the miscreants for that episode, but they are marked from that point on. The state police will do a full investigation based on that for poaching. Know that you may or may not be called to testify before a grand jury. Is it worth it? That's up to you.

I hear you but for the lifetime I should have left it is better than in WA or OR and I have been to Idaho and have friends there the same as Utah and I know it is a gamble but truthfully enough of Seattle and the moronic new gun laws and taxes they force on the rest of the state!!!!!

Same here 7 grand kids and two daughters but they have all left for greener pastures so my fight will be where I am at by my choice not some agenda 21 supporting bunch of fruitcakes!

Yes, it does slow the destruction down. Mostly. We have "travel plans" here. They come directly from input given at access management meetings held, you guessed it, at the BLM and National Forest headquarters in...Wait for it...Portland! Who mostly shows up at those meetings? Not the guys out working in the woods. They're busy working. The timber co. Forresters show up. They're paid to. Fair enough. They get to carry on the battle with the Sierra Club et.al. The 4x4 clubs and definitely individuals usually don't get a word in edgewise. The locals, not so much. At least at the meetings I've been to.
