My TJ is totally stock, 2001, and I don’t take it off road much. My options for maintenance and inspections (‘MOT’ in UK language) are 1. Local mom & pop garage, always looked after me well and service my other older vehicles, don’t rip me off, but not Jeep experts; 2. Off road specialist 35 minutes drive away, long waiting list, no courtesy cars.

It’s just been for its annual inspection and reading between the lines, they should really have failed it for the condition of something in the rear suspension - they passed it but told me firmly it needed fixing before next year. Their parts suppliers ’don’t do TJs’ so they couldn’t get it fixed but they are very confident they can do the work if I can get the parts. Probably I can get overpriced parts from jeepey.com but if not, Quadratec will ship to the UK. For a price.

The advisory on the MOT says ‘anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement near side rear’ (and ‘off-side rear’). The FSM refers to a ‘stabilizer bar’, a ‘track bar’ and ‘suspension arms’. Am I right in thinking ‘anti-roll bar’ = ‘stabilizer bar’ = ‘sway’ bar? (They also listed ‘suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement near side rear’. That seems easier to fix.)

I may have to get them to physically show me the part they think needs replacing TBH but if anyone can help explain I’d be very grateful. I’d rather do it locally than take it to the off-road specialist and lose it for a couple of weeks. PLus my 19 year old has just started driving the TJ (so he can tow his glider trailer) and while I trust him, I’d rather get this fixed before he does too much long distance driving.

Anti-roll bar is a less frequently used term used when referring to the antiswaybar. The TJ has them front and rear, the rear is bolted to the cross-frame above the axle and it has two links that come down to attach to the sides of the rear axle. The links have rubber bushings in them so that's probably what they're referring to. The front axle has the same thing, it's bolted on top of the cross-frame just behind the front bumper. It's under a big black plastic cover, it has similar links that drop down to the sides of the front axle.

How can I find out which parts are compatible? Trouble is in the UK parts suppliers don’t list compatibility for the TJ any more (or get it wrong if they do)

If I knew which vehicle they were the same part as I could definitely source them.
