Back in a Jeep after about 15 years. Had an 02 Sport but had to sell it when we were working on a house. After a couple different vehicles I decided was ready fir another Jeep. My father in law has a 70 CJ7 so I will be doing some wheeling with him.
Much of my outdoor adventures has been exploring on motorcycles. However, my wife died unexpectedly about a year ago, leaving me with 2 younger sons to be a single parent to. Kind of lost the desire to ride, plus Itvwas hard to leave them to go anywhere. Lastly I was concerned about the possibility of something happening to me. No matter how good and safe I ride, I am at the mercy of anyone in a car.
Enter the Jeep. Something I can include my sons with and go hit some trails.
it’s going to be a mild build. At this point I won’t be doing all sorts of rock crawling.
The plan is a 2 inch lift with some 31 inch tires. A little bit of armor, a winch and then some good times!
After a bit of looking I found the jeep but I was happy with. Right in my budget and in the condition I wanted. Single owner used as a tow behind a vehicle for their RV. I don’t think it’s ever been off road. 100% stock with the exception of some different wheels they put on. Unfortunately it has 3.07s. And 30/35s. But I can fix that.
2003 Wrangler X. Light Khaki Metallic. 88k miles. Soft top only which was my preference.
I6 4.0. 5sp. ZERO rust.
Came with a nice tow setup - I will be pulling this behind my 2020 Rebel often up to my father in laws in the sierras.
I have already have or ordered:
OME HD kit
Warn VR 8000 (I know it’s not the best, but I dont think I will need anything better for a while)
EAG bumper (see above disclaimer)
31” General Grabber X3s (already installed)
Led headlights
Poison Sypder sliders (Facebook marketplace)
Changed the oils today. Ordered some transmission fluid as well.
In the future:
Upgrade the stock 30/35s with some chromoly shafts and sleeves
No slip aussie in the front
Locker of some sort in the rear
OR
New axles if I can find them
The person I bought the sliders from says he has a line on a Rubicon transfer case that he’s taking out of a customers vehicle I may be able to pick up pretty cheap.
