Good day gentlemen,

A fellow Jeeper is having a technical issue with his Jeep and I would like your input…Here is his issue:

The problems have been going into limp mode far too often, jerky up shifting, little down shifting in 4 low. On advice from transmission shop, had solenoid pack installed – helped with these problems but still there

· One month ago drove up to Western Sierra – two long steep uphills. Went into limp mode four times on the way up. Worked fine while rock crawling at low speeds in 4WD for four days. As soon as hit pavement went into limp mode and also three more times on way back

· Your PCM installed

· Drives fine around town – but did before – not really testing conditions

· Drove almost same route last week. Only went into limp mode once on the way up and twice on the return – all times on steep up hills. No problems off road for five days. Off road in 4 low changed down much better (used to not want to change down into first, so I had to do this manually) and changed up well. First time I’ve had this “automatic” working well off road. On road changes up without being jerky and changes down smoother than it did.



Hopefully this is a good write up of my issues, what has been done, the testing I did, and what problems are still there. This is mainly going into limp mode. If you need any clarification please call me.

Nothing comes to mind after reading the solenoid pack was already replaced. I was having a limp mode issue too and I ended up replacing the solenoid pack, manual valve lever sensor, flushing out the valve body & and replaced the little check valves inside the valve body. I also installed a Transgo Stage 1 (least/none aggressive) shift kit. I think it was probably just the solenoid pack that fixed mine but I wasn't taking any chances while I had it apart.

Nothing other than the standard stuff.
Make sure the harnesses are gone over with a fine toothed comb. I don't care if you think you checked it, do it again.
Make sure all the harness connectors at the trans are sound. I know of a local rig that had his rebuilt and during the swap we got the harness to redo. Had the harness been inspected and done first, I'm pretty sure he would not have had to rebuild the trans due to how many bad spots and broke connectors we replaced.
Make sure the battery is good. Charging system is good. Terminal posts on battery are clean and shiny along with the battery terminals.
I've seen more than one limp mode issue fixed by bringing the electrical up to snuff.
