Thanks @Frank, we actually ended up buying a 2014 Ford Focus which we are really happy with. Only paid 10k and it averages 35mpg on the highway. It was a ford certified used vehicle and comes with a 100k mile warranty!
I'm very impressed with Ford these days, I must admit!
