Atlas transfer case rear support ring?

So installing my Atlas 4 speed T case next week. I want to add a rear support for it because it’s so heavy. I will build a crossmember from 1.5” or 1.75” .120 wall Dom tube. As I have dies for both. I’ll add Poly bushings on both sides were it mounts to tabs welded on the inside of the frame rails. But my question is with like the TMR customs ring mount. It has poly bushings. I have rubber engine mounts and transmission mounts. Will having poly on the tcas be an issue since the others are rubber? Trying Not to break or cause vibration issues in the driveline. Anyone done this?

It is generally advised to go with similar material throughout the drivline to prevent vibes - I’m not positive as this is custom so someone else should weigh in but personally I’d go with rubber over poly.

That’s what I’ve always been told as well hence the question. I’ve only found the rear support rings made with poly bushings or just solid mounted though. I gotta figure out what to order in the next day or two in order to get it here in time though

Honestly the support ring being poly won’t matter much if you’re cross member is already gonna be poly mounted - if you have all poly mounts.

I have MORE bombproof engine mounts but I have the Clevite rubber version and a rubber trans mount. Yes the overall crossmember will be poly mounted at the frame ends. But I was able to find a support ring with a rubber mount option from northwest fab out of Canada. So I ordered it and should work out just fine. I’m excited to get the 4 speed in next week just trying to get all the little details figured out ahead of time.

I wouldn't bother with the rear support unless you are racing it.

I trust your opinion a lot more than a lot of clowns on the internet as I know you have built a lot of rigs and are in the industry. You think it’s safe Even with the 130# atlas 4 speed. I was just worried about cracking the trans from all the weight hanging off it since the 231 is almost half the weight. Well I have it on the way so maybe I can hold off on installing it. I just figured I’d rather be safe than sorry and help hold the weight. It would also allow me to drop the belly pan without having to hold it all up separately as well. This is the one I found. I probably could have sourced the little rubber mount myself and cut a ring with the plasma table but I have no cnc to get great tolerances so it was worth my time just to pony up the cash this time

I would check with Advanced to verify but I've only used a rear support on the Atlas in race situations. You have to figure that even with a lighter case like the Rubi (not much lighter) and the 231, the transmission still has to resist the torque from big tires when one gets bound up in a hole and can break an axle shaft.

The other challenge is getting the load carrying balanced. You don't want the trans being able to bounce on a soft mount and then harder isolation on the rear of the Atlas. That is worse than the weight of the overhung Atlas.

Thanks for the input. I have not thought about the trying to balancing the load between the two. Makes sense though. I’ll give them a call later today.
 
The tech I spoke with didn’t mention balancing the load but rather setting it up so that the rear support was more of a neutral party and would only see a load if everything else flexed I’m guessing. He stated that as long as all the mounts were the same material I should be fine. I have not installed it. I kept getting different opinions on the things. And been fine since early spring of 19’.
