Spent four and a half days on the upper McKenzie river and over east in the basalt fields for the 4th of July. Outstanding wheeling, and not many people about once you cleared the main roads. Highly recommended. Fuel and supplies available in Rainbow. Not over priced either. Skip the store at McKenzie Bridge. Not much there.

you wouldn't wanna skin your knee on that stuff, you'd have to put a tourniquet on it so you wouldn't bleed out. :LOL:

Right!? It's harder than concrete and sharper than broken glass. Some of the basalt fields go for miles in every direction. If you're into rocks, it's a cool area to check out. The difference in the age of the rocks is interesting too. From about 1,400 years old to about 40,000 years old.

The native Americans had trails through that stuff. The history of the area is cool, if you're into that sort of thing.
