I'm putting in a new NAPA battery in my 05 TJ with the clamp (not J-hook) style hold-down. My old Diehard Platinum (from the now non-existent Sears) was held down with no movement in the 05 tray. Rock solid.

Napa battery can move about 1/4" - 1/2" side-to-side with the clamp installed. I'm going to play around with some bending on the tray mount and maybe adding something between the tray and/or clamp and the battery to add 1/8" to help hold-down.

Anyone else have this issue and find a good solution beyond what I've mentioned above that I'll try tomorrow?

The only thing on my 06 was the battery placement. When I set it in, I didn't realize the lower portion of the battery next to the firewall, was sitting on top of the tray edge, rather than the tray edge being set in the battery groove. Once seated in, everything locked down fine.

It's so tight of a fit, it's easy to miss it...........That's what I'm convincing myself to think anyway, beats embarrassment 🙃

The Jeep I bought the battery was loose. I figured I’d need a new clamp, but I went out and looked at it. Discovered the same thing as above, it wasn’t put in exactly right. Nor was the clamp bolted down all the way.
