Best clear base coat for bare polished metal?

I can't find a polished stainless valve cover for my TJ 4.0 (4.7 stroker) and there are no 4.7 Stroker alluminum ones so I sanded, polished and shined the factory valve cover. Now I need to protect it from exposure and heat. Eastwood clear coat actually discolored.

I think you are better off taking one down and having it plated. Nickel or chrome will hold up nicely

X2 to this. That would be a much better choice than clear coat.

How about having it powder coated clear. It would probably be pretty cheap.
