Black Magic Brakes Big Brake Kit: A Review in Series

Final Update: Very satisfied with the brakes. Ran Pritchett Canyon 2 weeks ago with my brother and father. Between the last time I posted, and the trip to Pritchett Canyon I installed a set of Mickey Thompson Baja Bosses.

The brakes worked great. I may have mentioned it above but I was concerned about driving through the brakes after the auto swap and the 5.0:1 Atlas t-case, but that is a non-issue. Even on the steepest downhill scenarios on Pritchett, I was not left for wanting more braking power, or in scenarios where the Jeep at idle could overpower the brakes.

@lBasket we made sure to get video of the Jeep actually braking this time, just for you. haha For interested parties, I have a full video of us running Pritchett Canyon on my channel, if interested.


I may periodically update this, but largely I'll be done. Feel free to post up if you have specific questions.

1.5 year update...

Been wheeling with the BMB brakes for the last 18 months, and couldn't be happier. When I first swapped the auto trans in, it worried me that the deep low range of 5.0:1 in the Atlas II, 5.38 gears, and 40" Baja Bosses would make it difficult to hold the jeep back on steep downhills and creeping along on obstacles because of the Jeep wanting to drive through the brakes. Not the case.

I am happy to say that the pedal input to keep the Wrangler wrangled in low range is very acceptable and has maintained a positive feeling pedal. I do a lot of 2-foot driving, and quite enjoy that I can set the throttle position and then control vehicle movement with the brake pedal with ease.
