Black Magic Brakes - Good Stuff

Just a proper shout out and props to @mrblaine and Black Magic Brakes. I was able to trade forum messages with @mrblaine and then we talked over the phone about best options, installation, etc. He took the time to walk me through everything which was much appreciated.

Ordered pads, rotors and calipers last Thursday and received them on Monday. Very fast shipping from CA to TX via USPS! Damn near broke my back picking the boxes off the porch. Didn't know 3 boxes that size could weigh so much! Everything was top notch quality.

Had everything installed yesterday, promptly did the break in procedure and then left everything to cool overnight. Performed the second day break in this morning. It is a vast improvement over the stock brakes. The pedal feel and braking distance gives me a lot more confidence in my TJ.

I don't know much about them, but have just recently discovered them, but to save @mrblaine some valuable time, Are there different options in pads, rotors, and calipers, or the was the option to replace all three?

I have a 98 TJ not sure what yours is, but I am assuming I would want the same options?

It depends on the size of tires you are running (or plan on running). For 33s and smaller, you can use the stock caliper and rotors, but use his pads. I swapped to his rotors as well though (and bought my new stock calipers from him at the same time since I had a seized one).

Oh Ok so, there are different options of calipers and rotors and pads. I do have 31's and really my plan is to stay there, but I would like to have the option to scale if necessary, but that said, I won't go more than 33's, so that keeps me in the same category.

2000 TJ here. As @zip04 mentioned there are options. You can click here and then choose your year model to see, but it is primarily pads, rotors, calipers or some combination there of. For my 2000, there was one package that had all three for $360. For that price I opted to replace all 3.

It is a vast improvement over the stock brakes.

They are even an improvement over other aftermarket offerings. I went from the terrible OEM brake pads to decent EBC yellow pads on all four corners to outstanding Black Magic Brakes pads on all four corners. I don't hesitate to recommend them whenever asked because they work as advertised and the owner, mrblaine, is a great help and source of info for just about everything Wrangler. I look forward to making the jump to the Vanco Big Brake kit with Black Magic Brake pads in the near future.

Same here, I've had Black Magic brakes and later the full BM Big Brake kit on both of my two TJs... outstanding product and pre/post support.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get a big brake kit from Blaine one of these days. I know it's unnecessary on my 33" tires, but IMHO, your brakes can never be too good!

You'll think they are unnecessary until you are stuck in line waiting for the jeep in front of you on a severe down slope trail, with your foot on the brakes, waiting. It's amazing how much LESS pedal pressure is needed.

If you are on 33s, then yes all you need are the pads. I chose to go with all new components for the hell of it, but I wouldn't consider Centric rotors and calipers to be an upgrade by any means.

I have stock size tires, AFAIK. 16" stock Rubicon wheels and most likely 31" tires.

Just received my shipping info for his pads/rotors/calipers. I know the BBK should be used on 35s and larger but at this point anything is better than what I currently have. Excited to get them slapped on

If your calipers are good keep them, same with rotors...I will probably do both rotors and pads when I need them just to start off "fresh"
