Body Mount Tire Carrier: Swing Down or Swing Away?

Building a body mount spare tire carrier is on my short list. I have to agree with the Rusty's vibe. But I also agree with Blaine that this is one of there better parts if not their best. I use the storage compartment in my LJ, it is one of the reasons I choose this platform.

I have been staring at my tailgate and considering what a body mount tire carrier with a 37 being the largest accepted tire, moved over to the passenger side to pace as much weight over the hinge as possible and moving it higher up would look like. I know moving it higher up would cut visibility but moving over would gain some so....

Mine swings both ways, so to speak...

The first Bi - tire carrier? ;)
p.s. I can't read your license plate. Could you please display it clearly so I can steal your identity? Your garage is bigger than my condo that cost $1,300 a month to rent. I'd be happy to live in your Jeep. I will only drive it to Walmart on weekends.

I have the Genright swing down. Its heavy but really not that bad. I have subs in the back of mine so I really don't get into the back.

Of all the carriers I’ve used. I’ve been happiest with the Aluminum Genright swing out carrier. It gets the tire up high and out of the way very well. However I’m more and more thinking about just running without the spare And the carrier. I know I’ll probably kick myself for saying this but I haven’t needed a spare in over a decade and even then it wasn’t needed but was quicker than seating a bead in this particular situation and it wasn’t even being used on my Jeep but on someone else’s. I have onboard air, tire plugs, quick valve stem repair parts, and even sidewall repair stuff with me. So it may not go back on. But that’s me.

I hadn't needed a spare in probably 15+ years until this happened to me last year. I have tire repair patches, a plugging kit, etc. but they wouldn't have fixed this one. And that's even a Kevlar reinforced sidewall.
